Corporate Gifting Guidelines

Do's and Don'ts of Purchasing Employee Gifts

Don't play favorites During the holiday season all your employees should be considered equals and the value of their gifts should all be within a couple of dollars of one another.

Don't give gifts that are used only at work  Purchase a gift that can be used anywhere, this way your employee doesn't have to feel like they need to keep it on display in their office.

Don't call a holiday party a "gift"

Don't be careless when giving food gifts  If you're giving food gifts, take into consideration ethnic diet restrictions, or health of the individual. One exception is giving sweets to dieters, holidays are designed for going off diets.

DO be consistent in gift giving   All gifts should be similar. If one has personalization, they all should be personalized.

DO remember everyone including the cleaning staff, mail persons, contractors and part-timers.

DO make sure managers work together  If there are multiple bosses in an office, try getting them together to give just one gift per employee, this way no one will try to out do another.

DO be discreet if you choose not to give to everyone   If you decide to only give gifts to some employees who are your friends, do so out of the office and make sure it is not an item that must be used at the office.
